Several people have asked me what my Betfair points are. I suspect the question is coming around because perhaps people think I am not trading but just punting or using some other strategy that is holding up and delivering a profit some other way?Well trading is punting as well but just on price rather than the underlying event. Not that different from spread betting on the stock market IMHO. As for outright punting I have parked that firmly in history. When I discovered how to trade it seemed pretty random but when I learnt what worked well and what didn't and why, it all came together.
Betfair don't reward traders for providing liquidity to the market, probably a mistake, but I can understand why they would want to balance out costs across the business and also why they would want to favour people that pay very large amounts of commission. For a true trader commission isn't really something that enters into the mix. I just always assume that I will pay 5%, anything below that is a bonus. Currently it looks like I am on 4.4% so I am saving 0.60% from a complete newbie to Betfair. Against earnings that's pretty tiny and really not important in the scheme of things. Hope that explains my position.
