Week 18 - Fun in the sun!

Ah, sorry for the delay in posting up last weeks responses and results. The weather has been so good this week, week 19, that I just couldn't resist the temptation to go out and enjoy the weather. The weather is often so poor in the UK that you just have to enjoy it while you can. Therefore I forecast a low total for week 19!
Last week continued the good run I am currently on. The big meeting at Newmarket made some good opportunties and the markets appeared to be generally favourable at the moment. Now we are really into the flat season there seem to be plenty of opportunties to get stuck into. I trust my favourable run will continue.

I appreciate your great free advice, well done on another unbelievable week. Every week you make me green with envy! Do you have any other job or are you a full time trader? If you do have a job what is it?

I left my job to trade full time over a year ago but I can’t make enough money to live on so I’m thinking of getting a job again. Nightmare!

Hello,
Just wondering how often you actually trade?
ie 5/7 days a week?
afternoon/evening racing?

I only trade the afternoon's cards because I have always though the evening racing's liquidity is not suitable to trade - too volatile.

What do you think?

Thank You,
Thomas

I notice you refer to the importantance of record keeping. Do you mind if I ask why do you feel it is beneficial and what sort of records do you keep?

"I can’t make enough money to live on"

Well it can be done, so my advice to you is get a part time job in the morning and keep working at Betfair. You may just not have found your style yet.

The majority of my time is weekday afternoons. I think I would go crazy if I did this seven days a week. It can be very frustrating at times and stressful when it's not going in the right direction so its important to be to get a balance.

"importantance of record keeping"

I download my P&L and bet history every week from Betfair. This way I can tell what I am good at and what I am bad at and take action on those points. I can also tell if I am getting better or worse and how I am doing compared to last year. Betfair provides lots of quality data so its really handy to use this.

Great reading about your success and for taking your time to reply to all the questions.
I have been experimenting with trading recently but keep making silly mistakes that are holding me back. I wonder whether it is part of a learning curve or maybe I'm just not suited to trading?
Did you learn the hard way and suffer losses in the beginning?

Yes, I struggled to start with but once you know what you are doing things improve. The problem you may be facing is that if you rely upon the free stuff on the web none of it is that good. In fact I'd say quite a bit of the paid advice is naff as well. So there is definately an element of getting used to the markets.
